Today is the beginning...

I guess by this time tomorrow the pundits will have talked today's activities, or lack thereof, pretty much to death. In our little town there seemed to be little notice, even though it's estimated some 15,000 illegal aliens work in our horse farms, construction industries and so on.

As I traveled the town doing my part to Boycott their boycott, I noticed business going on as usual everywhere. I even noticed quite a number of folks from south of the border (a.k.a. Mexicans) going about their normal business at restaurants, Wal-Mart, gas stations, Home Depot and elsewhere.

To the north of us in Gainesville, home of the University of Florida and known by some as the home of the "liberalies," a rally was held that reportedly attracted some 100 participants, much lower than the one a few weeks ago.

One thing I found interesting was an interview one of the local news/talk radio stations had with one of the organizers. He was obviously Latino from his accent, but the when the reporter recognized him as a parole officer, sworn to uphold the law, and asked him about the apparent conflict of interest, his supporting illegal aliens breaking the law, he suddenly had a loss for words.

He tried to justify it as a human rights thing, but the bottom line is, he was caught violating his sworn duty to uphold the law. Wonder what his superiors in law enforcement will think?

Down south a ways in Fort Myers, local WINK-AM radio talk show host Mandy Connell organized a counter rally. When it became apparent that many people who wanted to attend couldn't because of work, image that, she came up with a unique idea.

They could drop off chairs to show their resolve for them, she even set up a web site with the tongue in cheek name, "Criminals Against Restrictive Laws" or CARL, where for $5 contributors could rent a chair to stand in their stead. As of late today 950 donations for chairs had been made. Good job Mandy!

Well, only time will tell about today, but if this day begins to motivate people to take a hard look at our open borders and begin to take positive action to close them and deal with the problem of 10.5 million illegal aliens in our country, it was needed.

My greatest concern is that politicians will do what politicians do, stick their collective fingers in the air, find which way to "loudest" breeze is blowing, and take the path of least resistance.

It's up to us to "hold their feet to the fire" and encourage, shame and lobby them, probably even threaten them with their elected positions. But one thing's for sure, if the citizens and legal residents of this nation who believe we need a secure America do nothing, we will end up with open borders and a influx of illegal aliens in this country that will make today’s numbers look miniscule.
